Paris, 25 December 2010 (Poetry News Agency/Special) -- The Qatari Embassy here decided to give a special prize to the iconic Syrian poet Adonis as part of Qatar’s celebrations of selecting Doha to be the capital of Arab culture for the year 2010.
The diplomatic report Ghassan Twiny was also given a prize a long with two other French writers.
The US$10,000-worth prize was given to the four figures during a special celebration here in Paris. This celebration concludes similar activities that were held on this occasion all year round to recognize the contributions of creative writers and poets across the world.
Qatari Ambassador in Paris Mohamed Al-Kawari said Qatar managed to bring the four innovative artists in one special event.
“Is is our country’s success,” he said.
He addressed the Syrian poet as saying that this day happens to be your 80th birthday.
“You are a living legend of Arabic poetry,” he said. “You have never been traditional in creating your art,” he added.
